Case Study - Employee Absence Tracking

Problem: An employment agency with numerous offices throughout Canada was experiencing challenges in tracking its employees' vacation entitlements and sick days. The absence of a standardized process made their multi-level holiday approval process cumbersome, and did not provide the level of confidentiality they needed throughout the company.

Solution: We designed and implemented a secure application that automatically accrued vacation entitlement, allowed managers to record staff sick days, and employees to request time off. Confidentiality was maintained through restricted access to the application based on the user's position within the company. We incorporated the terms of the hierarchical approval process that required a request to be submitted and approved by first the branch manager, then the regional manager.

Results: Prior to the approval of a request, departmental managers could avoid staff shortages by reviewing previously approved requests of other team members. Through the automated process, management was confident that it's approval procedures were being strictly adhered to, and all employees' vacation entitlement could be easily verified. Management was also able to identify employees taking large numbers of sick days.
