Challenge – Provide A Secure Network

Problem: An engineering firm wanted a secure network that provided internet access to each workstation, the ability to share files between employees, and a shared network printer eliminating the need for a printer at each workstation.

Solution: We obtained a clear understanding of the business reasons for their requests so we could determine the appropriate solutions. We installed multiple servers, connected the desktops to each other, centralized their computer file storage, networked their printers and installed a firewall.

Results: We improved data security by installing a firewall, implementing access controls for confidential files, setting up user accounts and access lists. We saved time and money by eliminating the unwieldy process of sharing files via floppy disk or CD-Rom. By making printers available on the network, everyone had the option of printing to a printer of their choice, not just the one attached to their workstation. By eliminating the need for multiple printers, the company was able to consolidate their hardware investment into better printers.
